Welcome to the u3a. A nationwide organisation based on local groups providing opportunities for retired and semi-retired people to come together and develop their interests, meet friendly people, try new skills and make the most of life.

“Nobody needs to stop learning just because they have finished working.”
The u3a is for people who want to keep active in mind and body, enjoy socialising, and are no longer in full time employment.
u3a members also benefit from being able to join any of the Interest Groups which cover a variety of subjects. Some members join the u3a just to be able to participate in our friendly Groups guided by knowledgeable and enthusiastic leaders
A warm welcome therefore awaits you from our local group - Consett and District u3a

Consett is a town in the North West of Co. Durham, England. It is home to some 28,000 people. Consett sits high on the edge of the Pennines above the beautiful rural Derwent Valley at the edge of the boundary of County Durham and Northumberland. It is a town with a wide range of amenities, shops, pubs, eating places, residential areas and industrial estates. There are a number of villages in its immediate surroundings. Consett is fast becoming a popular place to live for commuters from Durham and Tyne & Wear who are looking for a "country" life.
Consett and District u3a was inaugurated in 2011 with 36 members. Our numbers have increased steadily to over 100. We meet in Citizens House, Station Road, Consett DH8 5RL on the third Friday of the month at 2.00pm to hear excellent informative speakers. We also have smaller interest groups within the main group who meet at various agreed times. External outings to places of interest take place throughout the year.
